How To Talk Bluegrass...

Versailles is pronounced "ver-SALES" in the Bluegrass - at least when referring to the nearby town by that name.  Athens, a small community in Fayette County, is called  "A-thins."  And if you ask for directions, don't be surprised if you are told to follow such-and-such 'pike."  This traditional term for "road" dates to the early 1800s when privately built toll roads connected.  Lexington with surrounding communities; a long pole, or "pike," was placed across the road as a barrier until the fee was paid.

You should also have the ability to talk Wildcat Basketball, for Lexington is the home for the University of Kentucky, "Wildcats."  You'll need to be able to KNOW by heart,  the history of all the past and present basketball coaches of Kentucky and each teams results.  You'll need to know  who, Adolf Rupp is, Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith are.  Who Bill Curry, Hal Mumme and Rich Parks is.  C.S. Newton and his responsibility.  These are just a few things you'll need to be prepared to  discuss with the locals here in Lexington. That’s if you don't want them to think you don't know nothing.  Obviously, this isn't all true, but Lexington is the Home of the Kentucky Wildcats.  The fans here are very dedicated and loyal to their Wildcats.  So, be prepared to defend your alma mater if it isn't U.K. when both university's clash in a NCAA Sporting event.
