If you're looking for Western boots, saddle up and get on out to Nicholasville Road, just across the Jessamine-Fayette county line. The Boot Store is the place to go for fancy boots, country-western furniture and men's and women's Western clothing. The Boot Store carries 123 different styles of hats, as well as a full line of belt buckles, accessories and custom-made boots. You'll definitely be in the Boot Scootin' Boogie mood when you leave.

Recent additions to and expansion of Fayette Mall have turned it into the second largest shopping mall in the state. More than 120 department stores, specialty shops, businesses and restaurants make their home in Fayette Mall. It is almost like a self-contained community -- you could come to the mall when it opens at 10 AM Monday through Saturday, stay 'til it closes at 9 PM and still not experience all that Fayette Mall has to offer. It's also open on Sunday from noon to 6 PM.
Fayette Mall is anchored by four large department stores -- Dillard's, JCPenney, Lazarus and Sears. Thirty-four more stores carry men's and women's apparel; these include Dawahares, Talbots, Casual Corner, New Way Boot Shop, Embry's, Lane Bryant, Victoria's Secret, The Limited and The Gap. In addition, there are home accessory and kitchen stores, a movie store, even "body" stores with lotions and potions.

You can't miss The Mall at Lexington Green. It's big, and it has a big, bright green roof under which you'll find all kinds of fun shopping opportunities, as well as great things to eat.
Leather Inc. features fine luggage and leather goods, ranging from garment bags and carry-ons to attaches, briefcases, Pullmans and wheel-aways and coach handbags. Tumi and Hartmann are among the fine lines Leather Inc. carries.
For the bibliophile, Joseph-Beth Booksellers is a book heaven with more than 100,000 titles in stock, not to mention hundreds of magazines. In fact, it's so huge, it has actually become a tourist attraction (as well as a hangout for the singles crowd). One of the newer additions to the Nicholasville Road shopping area, Regency Centre shops carry a variety of goods including GTE phones, golf clothes, clubs and supplies, discount clothing and books. The shopping center also includes a supermarket and restaurants.

Zandale has a wide range of retail stores and services: You can purchase toiletries at Walgreen's drugstore, knitting and needlepoint supplies at The Eye of the Needle or country ham and beaten biscuits at the homey little gourmet grocery store called Critchfield's. You can also shop for jewelry, shoes, tobacco and health foods, as well as have your shoes repaired, get your clothes cleaned, pick up a birthday cake, mail a package and deposit your paycheck. When you get hungry, there are also several places to eat, including Mandarin Chinese restaurant and Fazoli's.
Howard-Knight Tall & Big carries fine sports and dresswear for large men. And if you're interested in sewing, Fabric Fair Textile Outlet is a bonanza of fabric at discount prices. Educator's Delight is a favorite place for teachers and parents to find materials to help their kids learn.

Anchored by a large department store, Dillard's, and the Home Depot, which opened in 1998, Lexington Mall is a nice, moderate-size mall ... small enough to offer easy access yet large enough to have a wide range of retail stores, restaurants and businesses. The mall has a lot of empty storefronts, but it still offers a nice variety of stores. You'll find tapes and CDs, shoes, eyeglasses, books and jewelry, and discounted women's fashions. There is also a movie theater, Cinema Grill, and video arcade, as well as several places to grab a bite to eat.
Romany Road Shops Romany Rd. in Chevy Chase
Talk about one-stop shopping in a small area: You can cash a check at Central Bank, get your dog's vaccinations at Romany Road Animal Clinic, drop your dry cleaning off at Hart's Laundry, have a prescription filled at Wheeler's Pharmacy (while you wait, you might want to grab a pimento-cheese sandwich at the lunch counter), pick up some new window shades at Blue Grass Shade Company, browse through dresses and pretty sweaters at Sweaters & Such and pick up some gourmet goodies for dinner at Scarborough Fare specialty food shop. Whew! In addition, you can grocery shop, get a gourmet ice-cream cone, order flowers, have a picture framed, get a haircut, gets some tips on decorating your house and even fill your car up with gas. Run home, drop off the dog and all your purchases and return for dinner at gourmet eatery called The Cafe or the casual A.P. Suggins. There's not much traffic in this residential neighborhood shopping enclave, except in Kroger's parking lot, and the pace is relatively slow.
Harrodsburg Road Area

For nearly three decades, Turfland Mall has been one of Lexington's shopping mainstays and it underwent a major renovaton in 1998. With about 35 shops and stores, including two large anchor department stores -- Dillard's and Montgomery Ward -- Turfland Mall has something for everyone, including the kids. A movie theater, an arcade and kiddie rides will keep even the youngest shopper happy.
Turfland Mall hosts a number of promotional shows and exhibits throughout the year, ranging from antiques and arts and crafts to baseball cards. There are several shoe stores, Waldenbooks, Fashion Bug Plus and Fashion Shop with discounted women's fashions, and a unique store with all kinds of fun things called Spencer Gifts. And keep in mind the old-fashioned Walgreen Drugstore is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
